The Board of Directors and Staff of Gilda’s Club South Florida have been closely monitoring reports and guidance from the CDC and the Florida Department of Health related to the COVID-19 virus. For the last two months, we have been carefully following the recommendations of vigilant hand-washing, sanitizing, and reminding all of our sick policy, which is to not come to the Clubhouse when sick. We’ve recently added social distancing of six feet.
It has become evident that these measures alone are no longer sufficient to keep our higher risk population safe. As of today, we will schedule Zoom/Phone and Video Support Groups and other programming where possible with online connection accessible from any smart phone or computer. We will provide tele-support and offer other programs virtually. Gilda’s Club South Florida does have a HIPAA-compliant Zoom account to ensure that only member participation. Members will receive more instruction on technology use. We will continue to welcome new members and work with individuals and families one on one as appropriate via telephone. Given the quickly evolving nature of this health threat, we will continue to monitor daily and make additional changes as needed. We will update you as these changes occur.
We will suspend all in-person support groups and activities at the Clubhouse and Gilda’s on the Go Support Groups at other locations, until further notice. Please check the calendar on our website and Weekly Highlights for updates. We will re-evaluate frequently.
We will be rescheduling Saturday Night Live and will evaluate all future fundraising events.
Our goal is, of course, to return to regular programming both in and out of the clubhouse as soon as it is safe to do so.
We thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this unique situation with the urgency our families living with cancer deserve.
