Gilda’s Club South Florida has provided a free cancer awareness educational program, Kids C.A.N., for Broward County youth since 2015.
The program is an age-appropriate interactive presentation where middle and high school students are informed about cancer, diagnosis, and treatment. Our goal by the end of the presentation is to dispel myths surrounding cancer, give students tools to understand cancer risk and cancer prevention, how to take care of both their mental and physical health and how to provide support for someone in their life with a cancer diagnosis. The facilitators consist of a registered nurse and a masters level student in either social work or public health.
For more information on how to bring this impactful program to your school please call 954-763-6776.
A cancer diagnosis can bring with it fear, isolation, anger, and an overwhelming need for information about treatment options, health insurance, and how to manage the daily routine of life – not to mention if you need to overcome barriers to services such as finances, transportation, food, or multiple services needed while going through treatment.
