May 20th Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender (LBT) Brunch & Wellness Day

Promoting Health Equity for the LBT Community

On Saturday May 20, 2023, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Gilda’s Club South Florida will host a brunch and wellness day for the Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (LBT), and Gender Diverse community at its Clubhouse - 4850 Prospect Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309. This event will include the following activities:

• Food and Refreshments Buffet 
• Educational Speakers and Seminars 
• Health Promotion including  
• Health Screenings  
• Yoga  
• Mindfulness   
• Community Resources  
• Socialization and Networking  

In 2021, Gilda’s Club South Florida launched an LBT Cancer Collaborative with LBT community and healthcare stakeholders. Facilitated by Group Victory, a human service consulting firm, the LBT Cancer Collaborative was initiated to strengthen and expand cancer prevention and support for LBT individuals. This includes general community awareness, relevant social marketing, targeted outreach, and increased linkage and partnerships. This Cancer Collaborative seeks to promote LBT engagement in cancer prevention and support programming as well as improve cancer-related health practices and outcomes with the LBT community. As the convening agency, Gilda’s Club is providing organizational leadership and resources for this initiative.  

Breast cancer risks are prevalent in lesbian and bisexual women as well as transgender individuals. There is cervical cancer prevalence in lesbian and bisexual women, and endometrial cancer prevalence in lesbian women. Lesbian women and transgender persons also have risks for lung cancer. LBT individuals have lower rates of healthcare utilization than heterosexuals including for screening and routine care.  

• Advance LBT awareness of cancer prevention, supports, and care  
• Facilitate relevant and effective LBT cancer-related messaging and outreach  
• Connect the LBT community with cancer support organizations 
• Increase LBT engagement in cancer prevention and support programming 
• Improve LBT cancer-related health practices and outcomes
